Comics, comics, comics. Comics all the time.

No matter what else I am doing I seem to be in regular orbit around comic art. The 11 links to earlier posts can attest to that. What do I have to say about comic art? Two things I suppose. One, I have noticed the difference between when I am working in the style often and when I come back to it after a hiatus. The former is when the pencil/pen seems to work itself. No overt thought seems to be needed at times to figure out how to draw what I am drawing. It has been a while since I have been there.
The other thing is that in many ways comic art lead me to painting and portraiture. Once upon a time I had the view that naturalism/realism was the way to go for style. I no longer hold this view but because of it I tried to get my work, particularly the people, to look as true to life as possible. Again and again would work on faces and figures to get that "real" look. Eventually this lead away from comic art and to other things.
A side note is that I concentrated on faces more than other aspects. In hindsight I might have done well to focus on broader subject matter. I could stand some growth in a more well rounded skill set as face of what I can draw.
