Off The Mark
As I am sure I have previously stated I have done a lot of work copying other people's work. For example this is a Ben Shahn, whom even if you haven't heard of is still quite famous. I was working with a B/W reproduction for this one, if memory serves, but that is neither here nor there. The thing I am trying to discuss if something akin to composition, or as the post title implies hitting the mark. What you cannot see here is that in the original BS there is more to the picture. The main point and the thing I apparently did not budget for (spacewise) for my homage was the wonderful wrought hands of the lady. If you know any thing about Mr. Shahn I hope it is those expressive and impossible hands he draw/paints. This picture was about a new widow whose husband died in a mining accident as I remember it. Despite the half dead look of her face her hands held all the worry, pain and strife of the occasion. And I did not put them in the picture. I recognize that this might not have been my best choice and even now appreciate that better than before. The question becomes not if I have learned anything but if I am changing my behavior and my decision making processes. Did I?
