In my last post I threatened to draw/paint more stuff without using photos as reference material. That has yet to come to pass. My ironic response was to start carrying my camera as I walk the dog. These photos are from the time between this post and the last. I certainly believe that photographic work counts as being being creative.
Additionally it is also important to spend some time looking at the world around you. There is no need to capture any and everything in front of you. It is true that posting photos I have taken can not attest to that idea but it is still worth the mention. Looking is perhaps the most important thing you can do artistically speaking. Go out and see what there is to be seen is what I say to you.
I also went to the Frye museum yesterday. This too must fall under the auspice of the artistic realm. I did enjoy myself and appreciated what I saw. I enjoy their static collection and their special shows including the current Von Stuck paintings. It brings up some thoughts I had/have on blogging, or this blog specifically. As a general rule I had tried to make this blog some sort of venue for display my art work. There is though, other people's work to talk about and art ideas in general to comment on. Some examples can in earlier posts,
1 ,2 ,3 , 4, and 5 talk about other people or ideas that aren't exclusively idiosyncratic. It is true I could write more and differently without changing the visual aspects of the blog, that is to say what ever desires I have to write about art do not have to exclude my work. Nonetheless the idea of being something closer to a reporter or someone on the seattle art scene has plenty of appeal. Certainly there are themes and ideas that would come up in this endeavor that would never come up in my current writing system. As I write this the temptation to do exactly that is rather high. I suppose you will have to tune in next time to see what my decision will be.
