It's been a while.

I have, in theory, a show coming in January. Just me hanging paintings at a cafe but that is much more than I have been doing. I have been somewhat de-railed in my painting work ethic but I hope to push through over the next month to round out my hangable paintings.
This picture has nothing to do with any of the aforementioned. I had hoped to do a series of drawings/mixed media pieces of various workers I have pictures of. This was as far as any of it got. I have some admiration for the outcome of this one. It is clean in the line work and not without virtue in the composition. It could stand some tweaking but the red sequence has some potential as well.
Having said all that I now have a topic to comment on. I have found some works, my own and other's might be blase or mediocre as stand alones they gain a power or weight when grouped with others. You could argue this is true with different work but I am thinking specifically of series or thematic collections. For example a picture of a fork or some piece of cutlery can be interesting or not. Even a poor rendition of that same fork becomes interesting by virtue of repetition; one hundred forks means something different that one fork both in quantity (obviously)and quality. The gestalt perhaps or an idea that transcends or even never passing through the single fork idea (retroactively). Long story short; a lot of something is different and often more than a single image.
