Adam West and Co.
I think there was more, I know there was/is in fact but here are some of the many Bat Man Adam West era pictures I have done.
As I have been trying to demonstrate, to myself and others, is that I have been doing works both as series and with a particular intent behind them. The whole Batman tv show series began as a way to touch on a kitsch and as always a way to practice painting. Also, I think, there is the idea here of trying to nail down the idea of campiness even to the point of garishness. It does not show here as well years ago this Superman painting found me trying to capture some of the things I saw in Caravaggio's work. The red cape seemed to rich and apropo for a C. subject. It is often a fun moment for me to use the primary colors of super hero costumes. The Adam West Batman followed and got bigger in a way the Superman did not. I think though the whole genre and idea could well be continued and explored.
I suppose I have to confess that there was some thought that these might have a market, later if not sooner. That they might be quirky enough (and painted well enough) to draw someones eye. In a small way that has happened but certainly not in any kind of eureka moment.
