I am pushing through the larger Taxi painting. It is certainly progressing in one direction or another. If nothing else there is more paint on it. The picture above are some notes I took during the "thinking" portion of the painting. This is not entirely new for me but it isn't a very well ingrained habit. It does seem to be useful and the title of this post refers to this act. If I do this more and with purpose I think it is fair to call it progress.
I have made some changes to the painting since this picture was taken this morning. One is a change to Tony's leg as mentioned in my notes. There is plenty more to do but I have got some sense of what that is for the next session. You might notice that I had to change the position of the wheel well on the taxi. This I think looks much better. A potential "happy accident" is that i think the muted hub cab looks more powerful than a literal translation from my reference picture. True the position needs tweeking but the overall effect seems more supportive to the shape of the taxi body and the general tone I am striving for. The cab itself has a more hulking appearance with the shadows underneath. It is being worked on and the engine seems to have been removed and there is a hollowness one hopes to capture in this.Once upon a time people used only land lines and it was a habit to write things on the wall by a phone; phone numbers, doodles and various ephemera. You cannot see it now but this is an aspect of the scene. If it wasn't clear the boxy thing behind the left most person's head is a pay phone. The blank wall to the left seems to open and flat but I am hoping that the addition of the various scrawlings will shift some of the weight away(?) from this side.
