The return of the KAMA MONSTRA!
What to say? These are a pet favorite of mine, in idea if not in execution. I have dragged these out of a year or so but have been thinking of them somewhat consistently as a viable project. These are in various degrees of completion. In my opinion the larger Kaiju characters work better than the smaller classic universal monsters. It may be their more ambiguous gender or their greater distance from the human form. Then again it could be the proclivity of the giant monsters to "wrestle" in a way that the human sized ones do not, with some small exceptions. I could probably come up with a few more reasons if you wanted. The main issue of the moment is that I have never been able to catch the tiger by the tail for the style of these. That is to say my initial thought was to emulate the painting style akin to the Kama Sutra most of us visualize, something like the floating world ( I no that is Japanese) if I have my asian art terms straight. Admittedly the choice of paper was not so conducive for this direction. However after doing this work the other night I thought this might be a better direction to go in. The results of this will follow in the next post. Certainly there is to try and work with but right now this is the choice.
