RBY
I recently pulled up some old work, on cd not in person so to speak. I am looking at these in part through the lens of nostalgia, but also there was an idea behind many of the series I did back then. These in particular were drawn from photos by people like Henri Cartier-Bresson, I think. Those photos were in black and white. What I was aiming for, and there were more than I have shown here, was using the red, blue and yellow colors to recreate those tonal compositions. The idea, as I remember it, was to leave behind the lines of drawing and embrace a more painterly ideology. These I should say came before I started painting ( in ernest at least).
Regardless of the outcome of the pictures I do appreciate the choice of the task I set for myself. There does seem to be something to learn from looking at old work, not just as results but what the reason(s) were for doing them they way I did. I am tempted to say that there are advantages to being an aspiring artist/painter than being one.
