I am the habit of not naming my paintings, with this in mind, I identify them largely by the subject matter. The addition of the "title" or theme topic can redefine my view of a painting, my own painting. So when there is an open call for submissions in a show called the politics of power, I am forced to consider what the subject matter really is in the painting.
This might be more of an act of rationalization at best. It may be closer to the act of b.s.ing. However that does not mean the new facet of the painting wasn't there to begin with.
There is a another arena in art that is the interaction between two or more participents. This is a geometry that involves (or can involve) the artist, the viewer, the art and the particular showing. I am now in the process of puting down an interpretation that'll fit what i am offering for the politics of power. An earlier painting of americana is now being explored under this auspice. I think the easy spin would be one on the forground and it mass consumed glory. If this does not call into qustion the politics of power I do not know what else does.
